SW Transplant Centre - Changing lives through medical care

SW Transplant

The British Transplant Games

The British Transplant Games were first staged in Portsmouth in 1978 with approximately 100 competitors.

This was a one-day event, which has now grown to a 4 day annual event with over 500 competitors.

The Transplant Games are staged in various locations throughout the UK during the summer with this year’s event planned for Newcastle, 30th July – 2nd August 2015.

The Games allow transplant recipients to raise public awareness about organ donation as well as encouraging physical fitness after a transplant. In addition to being a sporting event, there is a very important social side where long lasting friendships are formed.

The South West Transplant Centre has a team consisting of transplant recipients from Plymouth, Cornwall and Dorset. They compete in a broad range of activities from cricket ball throw to snooker and from swimming to athletics.

Last year (2014)  the South West Transplant Centre team won 12 Gold medals, 6 Silver medals, 6 Bronze medals and 1 trophy for best male athlete.
