SW Transplant Centre - Changing lives through medical care

SW Transplant

Why donate?

Today more than 7,400people in the UK need an organ transplant that could save or dramatically improve their life. Most are waiting for a kidney, others for a heart, lung or liver transplant. But less than 3,100 transplants are carried out each year.

Transplants are one of the most miraculous achievements of modern medicine. But they rely entirely on the generosity of donors and their families who are willing to make this life saving gift to others.

Every year hundreds of people die while waiting for a transplant and many others lose their lives before they even get on the transplant waiting list. There is a serious shortage of organs and a large  gap between supply and demand.

NHS Blood and Transplant is the special health authority responsible for maintaining the transplant waiting list and facilitating organ retrieval for transplant.
